Famous Kurdish Intellectual Attacks AUI-S on Air

Faruq Rafiq, a famous Kurdish intellectual who lead the demonstrations in Sulaimani today, spoke to a Kurdish satellite channel Saturday night.

He attacked the Kurdish leaders and their supposed achievements.

When he came to Dr. Barham Slaih, KRG prime minister, he said that he has a university which is the first at the end.

According to Rafiq, who has taught philosophy at University of Toronto in Canada, AUI-S was ranked lowest among world universities.

Despite his criticism of the academic level of the university, he said that AUI-S is a good project and can be improved so it can embrace all people not only rich ones.

Faruq Rafiq is also the author of 4 books on philosophy and he is the director of Wisdom House for Philosophical Scholarship.

well thanks to him but as soon as he attacked kurdish culture so no doubt he attacks auis
it was obvious in his talking that he attacked auis only because it is the achievement of Dr. Barham!!!! he talked about plagiarism and didnt know it is one of auis policies which is not a importance policy in SULY university!!!

even if it is the lowest.. through hard work (not money) it can be improved to become as good as any other university in the world!

Like we say in Kurdish in Kurdish" Dr. Faruq has been sleeping in the ear of the bull." Not all the students of AUI-S are rich, in fact the majority are either from the middle or the poor classes. And, if Dr. Faruq is so concerned about the quality of AUI-S education, why he doesn't come here and teach. Perhaps he has better ideas!( which I doubt). We all know how active the student of AUI-S are,and all the
thanks should be given to AUI-S and its brilliantine founder Dr. Barham Salih. In less than three years three different Newspapers have been issued in AUI-S. Journalists, businessmen, active politicians, smart students, critical thinkers are blazing the thrown of AUI-S. Nothing is perfect, even AUI-S. The main building of AUI-S hasn't been finished yet. It still operate in a small place. I remember the T.V show on Kurdsat T.V that Dr.Faruq was presenting it. In one of his episodes he was talking about the difference between the people of Athens and Sparta. Fortunately, I had studied that part of history in my History class. I could easily understand what he was talking about, in fact I thought I could do better than him in explaining those differences and also how implementing them in our today's life. I got an "A" on that particular subject, but i doubted that Dr. Faruq can do the same. Not just that episodes, but almost all of his T.V shows were like that to me. I have tones of things to say but i have this last word if you allow me, " Stop cursing every bright side of Kurdistan."

I dont know why every smart man must ruin their speech in the end with a sentence just like him..He really has no idea about AUI_S because he said that Slaimani University is better than AUI_S while you can learn more in a primary school thean in Sulaimani's university..!!

Anonymous said...

No No No, he just said according to this global rank Sulaimani is better, which is true, Suli was higher than AUI-S by 8 ranks and that's a fact. I'm not saying Suli Uni is better, that's what world ranking poll of uni says as Faruq said that too.

Anonymous said...

they don't know anything about Suli Uni, every thing is bad there..come on our Doctors killed half of the nation, and all graduated there..all the student live on plaigarism, n there is nothing can be named as plaigarism..their teacher are the worst..u dont learn anything there believe me the one who did this chronology, he or she really dnt know about none of the universities..!!

Anonymous said...

YET, it reached the world's list of universities :D

Anonymous said...

Please do not attack Suli Uni. because who built new campus are all graduated from universities in Iraq and they have a high quality of knowledge, doesn't mean you are AUI-S student you have to attack Suli University. There is many good qualified teachers are in Suli. Uni. if government pays the salary as here at AUI-S I am sure no one comes and teaches you guys. To have knowledge depends on the students themselves not the university even we have students here in a high level and they have a huge grammatical mistakes.

guys i wonder why u get angry because of his speech!!!!!!!he gave his opinion as a professional writer..why dont we wait untill we see our student's work after the graduation? yes plaigalirizm is everywhere even at our universty,,dont be surprised and dont say it is not true,,, i personaly take his speech posetively because from now on i wanna prove that i can do well than any other students at any universty,,
if u want to be open minded people, u have to get advantages from people's critics
i personaly thank him for awaring us of what degree our universty has in this world.
i reccommend u not to get angry because he was saying the truth
thanks,

Guys be realistic, it is a global rank. Suli university is before AUI-S and you can't do anything about it for now. Act like grown ups and accept the fact. Plus we don't have any graduate yet to see who has more knowledge. There are brilliants in Suli University.

i believe he stated a fact and there no need to responding him. our university is new and its scientific level is not high enough to compete with other more experinced and old universities. do not be upset if someone told you that your are not good enough yet.

an MBA Student,
but who can tell us th right ranking ?

I am totally shocked by some of the responses on here.

Firstly I am a graduate of the University of Toronto and am Kurdish and in no way can take this man Faruq Rafiq seriously.

They teach us never to look down at anyone else when we get our diplomas, rather than come back to Kurdistan and try and show off.

Also, rankings of universities are subjective, hence why in the United Kingdom, United States, Australia and other countries, there is no uniform ranking system.

There is different newspapers, organisations that rank universities in terms of many factors. His statement is condescending and rather than brainwash the masses into believing he is the next messiah, he should try and focus on telling them just how bad life is for Canadians living in Toronto. Unemployment is high, nepotism is rife, internships are common place, yet none of this he talks about.

I am a Kurd who grew up abroad, but I have the decency to know that I should not talk big when I return to Kurdistan, as those who lived through the suffering have the right to learn as well. Why doesn't he speak about how universities started in the United Arab Emirates? The first western university that opened was American University of Dubai, and look at it now. These things don't happen over night.

Where is the source that he taught Philosophy at University of Toronto?

It doesn't seem to be anywhere in their records or history.

not everyone teaches at a great universiety means that he or she is a great person, yet we had really bad teacher at our uni. maybe he was under probation there :D
