The National Youth Orchestra of Iraq (NYOI) has started a fundraising aiming at collecting $100,000.
The orchestra which achieved a lot in a relatively short time asks for everyone's help in order to survive because, "Music teachers are rare, instruments are in shambles, and the orchestra members don’t even speak the same language. Security remains a constant concern, and there is a large gap in the orchestra’s budget."
NYOI is made up of 33 Iraqi musicians of all ethnic and religious backgrounds from Baghdad, Erbil, Suleimaniya, Ranya and Mosul.
Student Eye asks all AUIS students and faculty members to donate to this young institution. By donating one dollar, we can help our national youth orchestra survive.
