Although the Directorate of Islamic Affairs in Sulaimani declared Sunday, February 5th as a holiday to respect the birth of the prophet of Muslims, Muhammad (PBUH), the American University of Iraq Sulaimani sent its last schedule for the exams.
Thus, that frustrated some of the students. Ismail Kamal Aziz, an engineering student from Rania, said “I am ready to take the exam on Friday, but the day must be taken off as a respect for the anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).”
“Although some of the students do not care about the anniversary, the university should take it as considerations because that shows a great respect for the Muslims of the university,” said Rizgar Hussain from Rania, an APP student.
And some of the students see the decision as discrimination. “Why do they have holiday for 23 days for the birth of Prophet Jesus (PBUH), but they do not think that our prophet’s anniversary is worth even one day,” said Hawta Ramadan from Bzyan.
Note/ we did not have the chance of interviewing the teachers because of the weekend; sorry for that.

that is true; they had to make it off
It is totally correct, the university has to consider that.
This is a big disrespectful for all Muslims at AUI-S. They give holidays when they want to have holidays; they never ever care about students. Sunday is a holy day in Islamic calendar, but they don’t even worth it by giving only one day as a holiday just to show that they have A LITTLE BIT respect not for the student but for the Prophet Muhammad. I wish they would have reconsidered about this holy day, but what should we do if they are out of respect of our cultural and religious events.
They say they respect all kinds of religions but where is that respect? By not even giving only one day in the birthday of our Prophet(P.B.U.H)while the majority of people are Muslims in this land. Where is justice? I am respectfully telling you gentlemen? This is humiliation which I strongly disagree with that notion.
My professor told us he must leave early to go back to US. He already had bought his plane ticket. If students will have to stay in Sulaimani all week for final exams, why will not teachers? They should forced to stay too. What is our tuition for????
